What is marie-louise asseu?

Marie-Louise Asseu (17 August 1964 – 7 March 2016) was an Ivorian actress, humorist, and cultural activist. She was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and started her career in the 1980s as part of the theater group Koteba, which was known for creating social commentary through humor.

Asseu became a popular figure in Ivorian theater and television, known for her comic characters and her ability to use humor to address serious issues such as poverty, corruption, and HIV/AIDS. She also promoted the use of the Ivorian language, Bété, in her performances.

In addition to her work in the arts, Asseu was a social activist and advocate for women's rights and the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS. She was open about her own HIV-positive status and used her platform to raise awareness and reduce stigma around the virus.

Asseu passed away in 2016 from cancer. Her contributions to Ivorian culture and her advocacy work continue to be remembered and celebrated.
